Korea-China Summit (November 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Nov. 11.
President Moon said, “I’m glad that we have agreed to normalize exchanges and cooperation in the near future in all areas between our two countries through negotiations between the foreign authorities in Seoul and Beijing.”
The two heads of state officially expressed their will to normalize the bilateral relationship at the summit that took place on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit Meeting.
Korea-Vietnam Summit (November 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a summit meeting with Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang in Da Nang, Vietnam, on Nov. 11. The two heads of state agreed to develop the strategic partnership that currently exists between the two countries.
President Moon said, “Over the past 25 years, since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Vietnam has become Korea’s fourth largest trade partner and Korea has become Vietnam’s third largest trade partner and its largest investor.”
Korea-Indonesia Summit (November 2017)
President Moon Jae-in, on a state visit to Indonesia, attended the Korea-Indonesia summit with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Nov. 9 where the two heads of state agreed to elevate their bilateral relations to a special strategic partnership.
The four areas of cooperation outlined in the "Korea-Indonesia Joint Vision Statement for Co-Prosperity and Peace" include: defense and foreign affairs, bilateral trade and infrastructure development, people-to-people exchanges, and regional & global cooperation.
Korea-U.S. Summit (Novermber 2017)
President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump, currently on a state visit to Korea, reaffirmed the Korea-U.S. alliance on Nov. 7.
The two leaders held a summit at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul where they reconfirmed their unchanged will to cooperate in regard to a joint response to Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons and missile threats.
In the joint press conference afterward, President Trump said, “The Republic of Korea is more than a longstanding ally of the U.S.”
Korea-U.S.-Japan Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a trilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in New York on Sept. 21. During the meeting, the three leaders stressed the need for the international community to enforce the strongest sanctions possible on North Korea. President Moon said that, "Together, we stood with the international community, urging Pyongyang to give up its nuclear weapons. I consider this a meaningful outcome,"
Korea-U.S. Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York on Sept. 21. The two leaders reaffirmed their goal to achieve denuclearization of North Korea in a peaceful manner. Condemning Pyongyang's sixth nuclear test and ballistic missile launches over Japan's northern islands, both leaders emphasized the importance of complying with and carrying out U.N. Security Council resolutions No.s 2371 and 2375.
Korea-Italy Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a summit with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni in New York on Sept. 20 to reaffirm their cooperation on local and international issues, including North Korea’s nuclear weapons threats. The two sides commented on the close and reliable relationship that has been continued between Seoul and Rome, and agreed to tighten their ties. Both leaders also agreed to work with the international community to strongly confront North Korea’s continued provocations.
Korea-U.K. Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in and U.K. Prime Minister Theresa may held their first bilateral talks in New York on Sept. 19 where they discussed the joint response to North Korea, and helped to further develop the friendship between Seoul and London. Both leaders agreed to work together with the U.N. Security Council to respond firmly to the North’s provocations and to closely cooperate on a peaceful solution to fundamentally and comprehensively end North Korea’s nuclear weapons issues.
Korea-Senegal Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a bilateral meeting with Senegalese President Macky Sall at U.N headquarters in New York on Sept. 19. The two heads of state agreed to expand cooperation on many areas, including national security and the defense industries, as well as agriculture, education, welfare and infrastructure. President Moon said he hopes that Senegal's Maritime Infrastructure Establishment Project (MIEP), funded by Korea's Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF), has a successful launch.
Korea-Czech Republic Summit (September 2017)
President Moon Jae-in held a summit with his Czech counterpart, President Miloš Zeman, in New York on Sept. 19 to talk about ways to further improve bilateral ties and to deal with North Korean issues. The two leaders agreed that the strategic partnership between Prague and Seoul has grown since 2015, and they vowed that they will keep working to bring reciprocal ties to a new level.
